Part Time Potter, Full Time Artist
I’m a queer, small-scale potter working in the Richmond, Virginia area. My goal is to create unique, functional pieces for everyday enjoyment.
I love using variety in my work, which means no two pieces are alike. I focus on each piece individually to make sure it has its own personality, including hand-painted details and reactive glazes. Texture, glaze chemistry, and color theory all play heavy roles in what I create.
My workspace is small, often messy, and lit primarily by neon. The walls are covered in local art, sculptures, and stuff made by my teenage daughters. I thrive in fun environments with colorful themes and familiar characters, so my creativity really blossoms when I’m working in my little home studio.
When the house is empty, my neon is lit, and my headphones are on, the world falls silent and all that’s left is clay and molds and glaze. My hands are dirty, my clothes are dusty, and my shoes leave powdery-white footprints on our dark tile, but my heart and soul are happy here.
If my work looks or sounds right for you, I hope you’ll reach out for a custom piece. It can be as small as a ceramic cat figurine or as a big as a water bowl for a Great Dane.
I will be reaching out directly to my subscribers to let them know about drops ahead of time, so make sure to put in your email if you’d like a first look at what I’ll have coming out.
I split my time between throwing on the wheel and using slip cast molds, primarily vintage or ones made by me.
My homemade molds seem simple, but they provide the perfect canvases for my detail and glaze work. Most of the pieces cast with vintage molds end up altered, usually being morphed into pipes or ashtrays.
On the wheel, I’m focusing on bowls, pet dishes, and slow feeders. Sometimes a custom order will bring me there for small mugs, plates, or planters, which can be a fun way to flex my skills and push new forms.
The color from my surroundings transfers to my work and I find myself combining 3, 4, and even 5 different glazes to achieve my desired results. I aim for drips, vibrancy, and flow.
